How to Fold a Hakama

The hakama is a traditional Japanese garment worn over the gi by many Aikidoka. Folding it properly after practice is considered an important part of dojo etiquette — and, many would say, an art form in its own right. The pleats of the hakama each carry a symbolic meaning rooted in the samurai tradition, and taking care to fold them neatly is a sign of respect for the art and the garment. The video below walks through the folding process step by step.
